Grimaud Nouveau Jeu De La Main Tarot Cards

Bought: $2.99 Sold: $124.99 Fees: $18.47 Profit: $103.53

This was a fun buy. I was in a Salvation Army, and found this on the bookshelf. Based on the price sticker, it had been on the shelf for 3 weeks at this point. I recognize the company Grimaud as they were a very popular French card printing company, and in the 1960s and 1970s made a number of tarot decks that are quite valuable. The fact that the box was in French gave me some concern - English versions always sell better, at least in North America) - but Grimaud was a French company and card decks were often printed in French first and only later translated, so I knew that this deck was the original version, which may appeal to some. The deck itself is a bit odd in that it combines a tarot deck with palm reading. When I was in the store I wasn't able to find much about this online because I was only able to search using the French name. I didn't find anything else in the store and debating if I wanted to stand in line for a $3 item, but I was had a gut feeling it was a good buy and so decided to grab it. I'm glad I did. The English versions of this deck, if the 1963 first version, can sell over $300. The condition on mine wasn't amazing, it was clearly a well-used and well-loved deck, and the fact was that I was still trying to sell a fully French deck in North America. I decided to try for $125 and see what interest I got. I listed this the same day I purchased it - 3 days ago. So it sold quickly, so maybe I could have got more, but I don't care at all. I am super thrilled with this flip, and I'll gladly take $100 in 3 days for a few minutes of work.

I picked this up at a garage sale for $5. When I was going through all the pockets to clean it before listing it, I found a $5 bill in one of the pockets. Nice to make my investment back before I even sell the item. I sold it locally on FBM.
