Flipping Experiment #1: Comic and Anime statues, comics and posters - Month #25

May 31st - Witchblade Poster
Sold for: $18.00 Fees: $3.20

One of the few remaining posters sold. Not a huge profit, but at this point I am just eager to get the storage space back being taken up by the box of posters.

The Numbers:
Initial Cost: $2,000
Number of items sold in May: 4
Number of items sold overall: 162
Gross Profit for May: $137.98
Fees to eBay: $20.22
Net Profit for May: $117.76
Net Overall Profit: $5,069.06

Chris and I have recouped our initial investment, and each made a profit of $2,534.53

May 3rd - Kaiyodo Mon-Sieur Bome Collection Vol. 9
Sold for: $49.99 Fees: $6.58

We still have figures left some 2 years later and they continue to sell. Cannot complain about that!

May 4th - Jingai Makyo Ignis Statue
Sold for: $49.99 Fees: $6.72

The second $50 statue to sell in two days - not bad! This one had some pretty bad water damage to the box, but the figure was still in great shape. Also, this is the 160th item we've sold from this storage locker over the last two years and this sale sees us finally making over $5,000 profit! That was my goal when I bought this locker, and we finally hit it - and we still have items left to sell! After all the fees, we sold the contents for over $7,000, with the first $2,000 paying off our investment and the remaining $5,000 being pure profit. Chris did pretty well by agreeing to go 50/50 with me on this buy. I wonder if Robin will be so quick to turn down the offer next time...

May 5th - Fathom #12
Sold for: $20.00 Fees: $3.72

This is a limited edition cover of Fathom #12. I knew that all these variant covers from the 1990's would take a while to sell, this one took over 2 years, but with the price it finally sold for it was worth the wait.

Fightin' Marines #80

Sold: $4.99 Fees: $1.04 Profit: $3.95

A nice war comic sold. I am inching closer to breaking even.

Current profit off the comic auction: -$65.46

Alien Resurrection Movie Comic

Sold: $14.99 Fees: $2.07 Profit: $12.92

This is a 2-part comic adaption of the movie Alien Resurrection.

Current profit off the comic auction: -$52.54

Flipping Experiment #2: Storage Locker - Month #2

May 31st - Pharrell In My Mind CD
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

Another of the CDs from the locker. Only a few dollars, but I'll take it as it is all just profit now.

May 31st - Sony Walkman

Sold for: $24.99 Fees: $3.50

Another one of the walkmans from the unit sold.

The Numbers:
Initial Cost: $326.29
Number of items sold in May: 15
Number of items sold overall: 14
Gross Profit for May: $319.87
Fees to eBay: $32.66
Net Profit for May: $287.21
Net Overall Profit: $73.74

May 1st - Barney Stickers
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

The first sale from the hoarder storage locker! She had 100s of sticker sheets, but unfortunately most had been opened. I rescued the 20 or so that hadn't been opened, and most of them were vintage which is awesome. This is a set of Barney stickers from 1993. They are still sealed, and no way of knowing they came from a hoarder storage unit. I won't make a lot off each sale, but 20 stickers at $5 each will still bring me in $100, or 1/3 of the unit.

May 10th  - Tony Hawk's Underground Playstation 2
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

My 2nd sale from the storage locker! There were a number of video games in the locker, but none from the same system and no actual systems. They all had VV price stickers on them. I guess she would just buy them when she thought they were a good deal? Anyways, this is a copy of Tony Hawk for the Playstation 2. Not a huge return, but I'll take it!

May 14 - Super Mario Bros 3 Game Boy Advance
Sold for: $9.99 Fees: $1.55

This Game Boy Advance was in the unit, although no GBA and no other games. So far I've only really sold video games from the locker, which makes sense - video games tend to sell well on the secondary market and sell quickly. Video game flipping can be difficult as it is very competitive and supply is limited, which is why I tend not to delve into it. That being said, when I get a bunch of games as part of a unit it is easy to sell and move them.

May 14 - Super Smash Bros. Melee
Sold for: $59.99 Fees: $7.57

This is one of the most desirable Gamecube games and I was thrilled when I found this in the unit. I wish there had been more Gamecube stuff, but there was just this. This is likely the most expensive item from the storage locker. I'm glad it sold quickly, and will help me recover my investment.

May 15th - 10 Disney Sweatshirts

Sold for: $70.00 Fees: $0.00

I did not keep the vast majority of the clothing found in the locker, but I did keep the Disney sweatshirts since Disney stuff is collectible and I figured I could move this easily. I sold all 10 to the same buyer locally. Was a fast sale, and made a decent profit. I could probably have made more had I tried to sell them all individually on eBay, but they would have sat for a very long time and I have given up selling clothes on eBay. I'm happy with the sale.

May 15th - Panasonic Cassette Tape Player
Sold for: $19.99 Fees: $2.46

In the unit there were a number of cassette tapes, and four portable cassette players. This one is the first to sell. Not a huge profit, but it all adds up.

February 18th - An Iron
Sold for: $20.00 Fees: $0.00

This iron was in the storage locker, and appeared new in box. The box had some wear but the iron looked good. Sold this for $20 on Facebook marketplace. A nice quick sale.

May 23rd - Grease Soundtrack Cassette Tape
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

There were a number of cassette tapes in the locker, and although most of them were worthless, I listed a few that I thought might sell. This was one of them. Not a huge profit, but it helps!

May 24th - Guess Who DVD
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

This brand new DVD was in the storage locker. Not something I would have purchased to resell, but I'll take the $5 gladly.

May 26th - Murder Was the Case Soundtrack Cassette Tape
Sold for: $9.99 Fees: $1.55

Another cassette tape sold, and it is pure profit!

May 26th - Chippendale's Nightshirt

Sold for: $39.99 Fees: $5.35

This is one of the few pieces of clothing I kept, besides the Disney sweatshirts, and the only one I put on eBay. It is a Chippendale's nightshirt from 1987. It is so ridiculous I figured someone may want it. The fact that it was worn by a woman who was likely a hoarder just makes this sale that much better. And, with this sale I am officially in profit on the storage locker! In under a month I made back my investment, and so the rest is pure gravy!

May 26th - The Notorious B.I.G. Life After Death Cassette Tape
Sold for: $29.99 Fees: $3.93

This was one of the more valuable cassette tapes I found in the locker. I cannot believe people still buy cassette tapes, or that they would pay $30 for one! I'll gladly take it, and this brings me within $3.22 of breaking even on the locker.

May 28th - Vintage Vinyl Simpsons Stickers
Sold for: $9.99 Fees: $1.55

These are vintage vinyl decals of the Simpsons. It is missing the Maggie sticker, but overall is in pretty good shape. I'll take $10 for that, especially when it is all profit.

Vampire Hunter the Game

Bought: $5.64 Sold: $19.99 Fees: $2.07 Profit: $12.28

This is a game I've had for sale for over 2 years. I am really glad it finally sold. I paid too much for it, and it doesn't sell for very much and isn't very popular. Someone local bought it and is going to pick it up, so don't have to worry about shipping it either.

Vintage OPP Plaque

Sold: $84.95 Fees: $10.34 Profit: $74.61

I picked this up in a lot at auction. I was hoping it would sell for more, but this was a fair offer and I didn't want to hold on to this forever.

Silver Surfer and New Mutants

Sold: $5.98 Fees: $1.10 Profit: $4.88

Someone bought these two issues, along with the issue of Girls' Love.

Current profit off the comic auction: -$69.41

Girls' Love #172

Bought: $0.84 Sold: $4.99 Fees: $0.55 Profit: $3.60

This is one of the romance comics I picked up at VV in Pembroke months ago, and someone bought it along with two other comics.

D&D Queen of the Spiders

Bought: $33.34 Sold: $100.00 Fees: $11.56 Profit: $55.10

This is another D&D book that I purchased in Pembroke VV last week, and with this sale I have paid off the entire purchase and already made a profit. So everything else that I picked up then will be pure profit.

Spawn Action Figure

Bought: $2.00 Sold: $39.99 Fees: $5.69 Profit: $32.30

I picked this figure up at the Glebe garage sale for $2, I listed it on eBay on Sunday and it sold today, Tuesday. That is a pretty nice turn around and a nice return on a $2 investment.

TSR Boot Hill Game

Bought: $56.96 Sold: $65.00 Fees: $8.04 Profit: $0.00

I was in Pembroke a few weeks ago for work and I stopped at the local VV and picked up a bunch of D&D books and box sets. I paid $90 for everything, and I sold this single box set for $65, so this paid for about 2/3 of the entire purchase. I just need to sell one or two more before I break even and start making a profit as a lot.

Three Darkhawk Comics

Sold: $11.97 Fees: $2.81 Profit: $9.16

Someone bought these three issues of Darkhawk. This sale put yet another lot into the black, making my total of profitable lots to date 15 out of 32. Also, I am now less than $75 from making a profit overall!

Current profit off the comic auction: -$74.29

Saxophone Musical Instrument Lapel Pin

Bought: $0.00 Sold: $4.99 Fees: $0.83 Profit: $4.16

This is a pin of a saxophone - I'm assuming purchased by someone who plays.

Saint Agnes Church in Rome Postcard

Sold: $1.99 Fees: $0.21 Profit: $1.78

I've had a number of postcard sales recently, which is great. These things are pure profit.

X-Force #15

Sold: $9.99 Fees: $1.55 Profit: $8.44

This is an early fight between Deadpool and Cable with a classic cover - I have no doubt that the new Deadpool movie helped to sell this issue.

Current profit off the comic auction: -$83.45

Our Lady Lourdes Postcard

Sold: $1.99 Fees: $0.21 Profit: $1.78

Another postcard, this one featuring Our Lady Lourdes.

Camelbak Dart

Bought: $11.29 Sold: $39.99 Fees: $5.45 Profit: $23.25

This is a camelbak, which is a backpack filled with a water pack that you can drink through a straw over your shoulder. Used for hiking and running. This one was in pretty good shape considering it was used, although it took almost two years to sell.

Penthouse September 1984

Sold: $44.99 Fees: $5.87 Profit: $39.12

Two weeks ago I bought another lot at auction of some magazines. It was hard to tell what most of them were, but I was able to identify this issue, which as you can see sells well. I spent $50 for the entire lot, so this single issue paid for almost all of it. Just need to sell one or two more to be in the black.

British Country Home Postcard

Sold: $1.99 Fees: $0.21 Profit: $1.78

Another postcard sold. This one had no identifying marks about it whatsoever. It is a British postcard, and beyond that I know nothing. It appears to be a country home. Someone still found it and bought it.

French Batman A Word to the Wise

Sold: $10.00 Fees: $0.00 Profit: $10.00

When I was packing the five copies of the Batman issue for the buyer I noticed that one had an extra copy in the bag and it was a French copy. I messaged the buyer and asked if he wanted to buy it as well, and I suggested $10 for it (compared to the $3 per issue I was charging for the English) and he gladly agreed. I didn't even know I had this comic and it was a fast $10. Also, with this sale I am now less than $100 until I start making a profit!

Current profit off the comic auction: -$91.89

Batman A Word to the Wise

Sold: $14.95 Fees: $4.13 Profit: $10.82

I had five copies of this comic and this buyer bought all five. This is a PSA comic featuring Batman to promote literacy, and it was sold only at Zellers stores in Canada. I would have thought that a Canadian-only Canadian comic would be more popular, but considering it is just a PSA comic it doesn't actually contain a real story so probably isn't all that collectible. That being said, nice to sell all five copies at once.

Current profit off the comic auction: -$101.89
