A MEGA (Bloks) flip!

Bought: $25.00 Sold: $199.99 Fees: $15.36 Profit: $159.63

This was a lot of three Mega Bloks Pirates of the Caribbean sets. Each of these sets were sold individually originally, although you could buy a big box with all three (similar to the one I sold in January). Someone had all three on Kijiji for $10 each or $25 for all three, which I quickly grabbed. All three sets were complete and included instructions. I couldn't believe my luck - I knew what these were worth from the set I previously sold. It didn't even sit that long, just over two weeks. This sale is a great way to end the month, and will likely form a large portion of my monthly sales.

Lifesavers pillowcase

Bought: $1.12 Sold: $12.64 Fees: $1.44 Profit: $10.08

When I found this at VV for 99 cents I knew I had to buy it, I didn't even bother looking it up - I figured I could get $10 for it. It is clearly vintage, with bright colours, and a neat and desirable design. I looked around the whole store for a possible matching pillow case or sheets, but with no luck. That said, $10 for a pillowcase is never a bad sale.

Forbidden Bridge

Bought: $6.77 Sold: $50.50 Fees: $7.04 Profit: $36.69

This is a board game released by Milton Bradley in 1993, and is quite collectible. It has a lot of moving parts, and needs to be built as the board is really pieces of plastic and not just a flat board. The game was not complete, but had enough of the essential parts that you could play the game. If it was complete, and the box was in better condition, this game would fetch closer to $100. I was quite shocked when I found this at VV, and for so cheap. There are a few of these early 90's games that have continually increased in value, and so I keep an eye out for them. I would love to come across another one of these.

Selling a comic is bittersweet

Bought: $1.00 Sold: $20.00 Fees: $1.98 Profit: $17.02

This is an issue of The Incredible Hulk that I found at a thrift store for a $1. Most comics at thrift stores are worth nothing and/or are heavily damaged. While this one was not in the best condition, it was in fair shape and happens to be a relatively collectible issue. My knowledge of comics comes in handy for this quite nicely - though it also makes me want to keep any valuable comics I find. Robin will be glad to know that I didn't keep this one. This comic, if in mint shape, would fetch close to $50, but $20 for this condition is a good price.

Lot of Monsters INC toys

Bought: $16.94 Sold: $37.99 Fees: $4.51 Profit: $16.54

Chris picked up for Monsters INC playset at VV, which came with a lot of toys. Unfortunately, the play set was not complete, but I figured I could sell the figures on their own since I had 22 of them. They sat for a while, but finally sold. I would not have normally paid so much for just a bunch of loose figures, but sometimes you take risks and you have to make the most of it. Overall, not a bad sale.

A really cheap Avalon Hill game

Bought: $3.15 Sold: $12.49 Fees: $2.02 Profit: $7.32

I bought this because I couldn't leave an Avalon Hill game in a VV, but this one is not very much in demand, and so I made a very low ROI. That being said, I still made a profit and it sold quickly, so I'm not complaining.

Anyone want a puzzle?

Bought: $3.38 Sold: $30.00 Fees: $2.95 Profit: $23.67

This is a puzzle called Verticalville by Springbok. When I saw it at VV I thought it was a really cool design, so looked it up - which is rare, I usually ignore puzzles. I saw that it can sell between $30-50 if complete. I grabbed it, but the box and online do not list the actual number of pieces, just that it is "over 500 pieces." So I had to build it. While I enjoy puzzles, it was still a tad annoying, but thankfully it was complete and in good shape. I actually found a second copy of this puzzle in Toronto, but I have not yet had the patience to build it. Maybe if I get really bored this summer.

Electronic Translator

Bought: $5.05 Sold: $44.48 Fees: $3.40 Profit: $36.03

This is a Quicktionary portable electronic translator. This device scans a word on a page and translates it from English to French or from French to English. This seems a lot less efficient than just typing the word into a translator, but nevertheless, this thing exists. I got this at the now closed GW for pretty cheap, and knew that it would go for a lot more. This sat for a long time, but finally sold.

Flipsiders!

Bought: $4.50 Sold: $50.65 Fees: $5.60 Profit: $40.55

I'm so glad these finally sold, just because they are one of the coolest things I've found. While they may look like cassette tapes, they are in fact actually mini games! Each one of these games has a board that folds out, with miniature pieces, and the sprockets of the cassette tape are the spinners instead of dice. These were all three in a bag on the wall at VV, and when I first grabbed it I figured they were just kids cassette tapes (being so bright and colourful) but I quickly realized they were something else - flipsiders - and are collectible. I considering listing these individually but considering they only tend to go for about $20, I figured a lot would save on shipping. Made a nice profit on these, and cleared out one of my older stock item. I am going to be keeping an eye out for these again in the future for sure.

Sony Sports Walkman

Bought: $3.38 Sold: $31.64 Fees: $2.77 Profit: $25.49

I still get a kick out of the fact that I can sell cassette players. We've had two major musical shifts since these were popular - CDs and MP3s - and yet these still sell. This model is a sports edition and was built to be used while running and biking. I tested it and it worked. I pick up any Sony cassette players I see if cheap enough. Not all models sell, and Sony seems to sell better than most others, but for a few bucks these tend to do all right.

Kerplunk!

Bought: $4.56 Sold: $32.17 Fees: $4.28 Profit: $23.33

This is a vintage copy of the game Kerplunk. I don't normally pick up common games like this one, even when vintage since the market is usually flood and not often a great ROI. Chris picked up this one, and while originally a bit suspicious about my ability to flip it, it apparently sells for a decent price. This copy was very aged and the plastic had yellowed and cracked a bit from age, but was complete and worked. Another good find by Chris.

Update on older post

Re-posting of original post with new edit below

Bought: $5.50 Sold: $12.88 Fees: $2.55 Profit: $4.83

April 19th update: I sold a lot of three books: Dennis the Meanace 2003, Topper 1973, and Beano 1994. These are three annual comic books from the same publisher.

Original Post:

I thought I would post something different today. Instead of showing you what I sold, I am going to tell you what I bought, and then I will update this post as, if, things sell and see if I made profit on today's purchases.

Today was the start of the Rockcliffe Park Book Fair, which runs all weekend. I was not expecting it to be as busy as it was, it was a zoo! I could barely move, let alone get to books. I had to wait to get in and once in I was feeling quite claustrophobic. People were buying bags and bags of books, with seemingly no real discretion. I made it as far as the board games and kids books before giving up and leaving.

I spent $34.50.

I bought:
1) Build the Titanic Paper model (NIB) - $3
2) Fun City Board Game by Parker - $2
3) Top Gear Board Game - $3
4) Star Wars Phonics Set - $3
5) The Secret World of Arrietty Blu-Ray - $2 [Sold with profit of $16.68]
6) Lord of the Rings Film Book - $2.50
7) Batman The Official Book of the Movie - $2.50 [Sold with profit of $2.10]
8) Bone The Complete Epic - $8
9) Shirley Temple reading Bambi Record Set - $1 [Incomplete. Did not sell]
10) Thunderbirds Annual 2001 - $2
11) Beano Book 1994 - $2 [Sold as part of lot, for total profit of $4.83]
12) Dennis the Menace Annual 2003 - $2.50 [Sold as part of lot, for total profit of $4.83]
13) Topper Book 1973 - $1 [Sold as part of lot, for total profit of $4.83]

So far I've made: $23.61 with 3 sales.

Edit #1 (Nov 6): I got home and checked the items, and the Bambi Record set is missing one of the three records, and it is badly taped together. It is not going to be worth my time and I will likely never sell it. That is one item done, and $1 wasted. Also, the Bone Complete Epic, the most expensive book, has a coffee stain on the bottom of the book, though it did not seep onto the pages. I am hoping I can at least make my money back on it.

Edit #2 (Nov 9): Listed and packaged everything over the weekend. Now we sit and play the waiting game...

Edit #3 (Jan 26): The first sale from the bunch, and, of course, it was one of the non-book items. I sold the Blu-Ray, which I would have guessed would be the first to sell. So far after the sale of one item I have recovered half of what I spent. The rest will take a while to sell, books are not typically fast movers.

Edit #4 (March 18): The second sale, and a small profit. Five months and I've sold one book. This experiment into books is clearly a failure, but I just hope I sell enough of the rest to break even on this.

Edit #4 (April 19): The third sale, with a very small profit. I had these three books listed as one lot. I essentially made back my money and a little bit extra. I am just glad these are selling, and I'm not stuck with them. Lesson learned, books do not sell well on eBay and large booksales are not a great place to buy product for eBay.

Lord of the Rings Risk

Bought: $5.00 Sold: $19.99 Fees: $2.29 Profit: $12.70

I normally wouldn't buy this game, unless I found it new. There isn't enough meat on the bones. That being said, I bought this because the guy who was selling the Star Wars Epic Duels game was selling it. and I didn't want to arose suspicion by only buying the one game, and I knew I could still make some money of this game. I made some money on this, and already made a great ROI on the Star Wars game, so this is just icing on the cake.

Looney Tunes Puzzle

Bought: $4.51 Sold: $29.99 Fees: $3.16 Profit: $22.32

Picked this up at VV, mainly because it was so cool and iconic looking. It is a puzzle from 1990, and features most of the cast from Looney Tunes. It included a sheet listing who was depicted at each spot. I quickly built the puzzle, since it was only 300 pieces. It didn't take me long, and is a lot easier to guarantee all the pieces are there then just by counting. It was in a bit rough shape, but overall a very cool puzzle. I would pick up one of these again in no time.

Also, eBay recently announced that come June eBay.ca will only allow you to list in Canadian dollars, not American. Previously I had been listing in American. It is easy to tell which items are new items I've started listing in Canadian, since the price ends in 99, as opposed to whatever the american converted to.

Friends: Whose Scene it?

Bought: $5.64 Sold: $44.93 Fees: $5.17 Profit: $34.12

This is a new in box copy of the Friends Scene it? There are a number of Scene it games, and most of them are not that valuable. Most are not worth trying to flip, but a few are. It all depends on the popularity of the show/movie. This one had the added bonus of still being new and sealed, which doubled its selling value. I am not sure I would have bought this had it been used, but NIB this was an easy call. The credit for this find actually goes to Chris, who has a more flexible schedule than I do, and often stops at VV during the day.

Vintage ice bucket and wine cooler

Bought: $12.41 Sold: $51.08 Fees: $5.77 Profit: $32.90

This is a set of ice bucket and wine cooler from the Turnwald Collection. I labelled this as Mid-Century Modern, but I really don't know what that means, or if this is an even example of it. These are white plastic with gold-plated trim. While I think this is pretty hideous, I figured it would be of interest to someone. It was made from a well-known bar item company and is clearly both vintage and well made. They were purchased by an architect in Chicago, so this will probably soon adorn some hipster bar cart.

This Play-Doh is off to Argentina

Bought: $0.00 Sold: $12.99 Fees: $1.64 Profit: $11.35

This is a Play-doh set featuring Mr. Potato Head. I got this in a bag of other Play-Doh stuff from BFM, and I sold the other stuff already, so this is all profit. Being a small set, with no particularly fancy pieces, it doesn't sell for a lot. Someone messaged me saying that their grandson loves Mr. Potato Head, and that they can't buy any of it in Argentina, and would I mail it there. I said sure, and she bought it. I am a bit hesitant about mailing internationally with no tracking, but it is such a small amount that if it gets lost I can eat the cost easily. I'm also glad to get this out of the house! While it doesn't make a big profit, always nice to see these small things sell - especially when they are just in the bag with the stuff you really wanted to buy.

Pocahontas Mug

Bought: $3.38 Sold: $12.96 Fees: $1.87 Profit: $7.71

This is a Disney Pocahontas Mug. People apparently collect these. I found this at VV months ago, back when I was starting. It took a while to sell, and didn't make a huge ROI, but it doesn't take up a lot of space. If I could find these in the future for cheaper, I'd probably pick them up, but not sure I'd buy one again at $3.

Who needs more Zen?

Bought: $9.03 Sold: $64.87 Fees: $4.95 Profit: $50.89

This is a Creative Zen MP3 player. Launched in an attempt to compete with Apple, but clearly didn't succeed. That being said, this MP3 player had a lot going for it - it was 8 GB, played video, and had a built in FM radio. I found this at VV, and while it didn't originally work, I flashed the firmware and updated it to the newest version and it worked fine. I wiped it and it was good to go. I had it up for $75 USD, but took a best offer of $50 USD. A pretty good ROI.

Play-Doh Cookie Monster

Bought: $6.77 Sold: $97.31 Fees: $9.77 Profit: $80.77

This is the Cookie Monster's Letter Lunch play set from Play-Doh, which was released in the early '00s. This is one of the most valuable Play-Doh sets on the secondary market right now, and I have no idea why. I'm guessing for two reasons: 1) it features Cookie Monster, who is well built and who actually "eats" things put in his mouth, and 2) it features a letter mold for all 26 letters, something Play-Doh has apparently never done before or since. That being said, this set which originally sold for $19.99 can fetch over $200 if New in box. This one was used, and only had 13 of the 26 letters, but despite this still reached almost $100. Not bad for a $6 pick-up at VV. The cookie monster alone can sell up to $50, so it is worth keeping an eye out for. I actually found a second one of these at VV recently that had all 26 letters, which is still for sale but at a much higher price. This was a great sale, and a very nice ROI.

Harry Potter Wizard Chess

Bought: $6.77 Sold: $24.99 Fees: $3.04 Profit: $15.18

This is a Harry Potter Wizard Chess game that I picked up at VV. It is just a chess board with chess pieces resembling those in the Harry Potter world. There is nothing particularly interesting about it, but people love their Harry Potter stuff. There are a lot of Wizard Chess sets, and some very high end ones. This is one of the cheaper ones. It was a nice profit.

Pop Funko

Bought: $4.56 Sold: $26.31 Fees: $3.28 Profit: $18.47

This is a Pop Funko figure. They are collectible figures depicting characters from TV, movies, comics, and pop culture. This one is depicting My Melody, a character from Hello Kitty. There is a market for these figures, and like anything collectible, some are more rare than others. I personally have little to no interest in Funkos, but a lot of people buy/trade/sell/flip these, and some will good profit. It is not the type of flipping I enjoy - it is a flooded market, and very competitive. I'd much rather stick to selling rare/uncommon and vintage items. Anyways, Chris picked this up at VV. It came in the box, but both the box and the figure were a bit beat up and clearly used. That being said, this figure is out of print and a few years old now, so despite its flaws it still sold.

Pixel Chix Games

Bought: $13.53 Sold: $23.06 Fees: $3.23 Profit: $6.30

I picked up three of these Pixel Chix games at VV back in the fall, unfortunately only two of them worked, so I made less profit than I was expecting. I was hoping that these games would sell faster, and I had to lower the selling price for these to sell. These are games were you play with a little figure on the screen, who you can feed, put to sleep and play with. If you connect two devices together, the characters can interact with each other. This is essentially a newer version of a Tamagotchi toy. I've seen a few of these at VV since and passed on them. I don't think there is much demand for these, and I am just glad I managed to make my money back on these.

Singer Buttonholer

Bought: $6.77 Sold: $13.17 Fees: $2.21 Profit: $4.19

I picked up four of these vintage Singer sewing machine attachment sets at VV. This one was the most expensive, with the other three being only $3. Unfortunately, this one was also the one that sells for the least. I'm glad one of these finally sold. I knew that these would be long tail sales, but it is nice to see one sell within a few months.

Dungeons & Dragons Lot Update - 5th Book sold

Bought: $18.89 Sold: $71.31 Fees: $11.23 Profit: $41.19

Original Post (November 22nd, 2015)
I picked up nine Dungeons and Dragons books from VV for a total of almost $19. It is just easier for me to keep track of them as one post, so I will update this post as they sell. I won't see a profit until a few have sold, but that too will update with time.
All the books were from "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition" which is an older version of the game from the early 90s. They are currently on the 5th edition, so the books have some value but most people playing D&D today aren't that interested. This combined with the fact that a lot of the books are online as PDFs, means that these may sit for a while.

Update to Post (February 1st, 2016)
I sold the 2nd book from this lot today, and have made made back my investment and am now $4 ahead. Meaning that when the next 7 books sell, it will all be profit.

Update to Post (March 17, 2016)
I sold the 3rd book from this lot today, and started to make a decent profit on this lot. With still 6 books to sell, this lot will, eventually, turn a very nice profit. It has taken 5 months to sell three books, so I realize it will take time, but it just goes to show that you need to have the right item listed when the right buyer comes along.

Update to Post (April 1, 2016)
I sold one of the cheaper books from this set today, but not only is a sale a sale, but this was my first sale of April, and it was before 8am, so that is a good start to the month.

Update to Post (April 3, 2016)
Another sale today - two within two days. This was the cheapest one I had for sale, but a sale is a sale.

Nov 22, 2015 - 1st sale of The Complete Wizard's Handbook for $6.65.
Feb 1, 2016 - 2nd sale of I, Tyrant for $21.09.
Mar 17, 2016 - 3rd sale of The Complete Druid's Handbook for $26.71
Apr 1, 2016 - 4th sale of Advanced D&D Dungeon Master's Guide for $10.33.
Apr 3, 2016 - 5th sale of The Complete Wizard's Handbook for $6.53

Another Rock Band Dongle

Bought: $2.25 Sold: $24.99 Fees: $2.58 Profit: $20.16

This is another USB Wireless Dongle for the video game Rock Band. Chris got this one as well - he loves buying these. While I understand why he does - they often go for cheap at VV and resell for a good amount online, I am always hesitant about selling them without being able to test them. Fingers crossed this one works.

Two Meccano sales to the same guy

Bought: $6.32 Sold: $40.00 Fees: $4.20 Profit: $29.48
Bought: $4.50 Sold: $13.09 Fees: $2.53 Profit: $6.06

These are two Meccano sets that I had picked up at VV. The one on the bottom is complete new in box (though the box has some wear), and the one on the top is a special edition set, which while used is almost complete. A guy in Nova Scotia made an offer on both, and both offers were reasonable so I accepted. I'll have to unbox both (since I box when I photograph and list to save time) and combine together to try and save him some money on shipping. These have been around for a while, so glad they sold.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's a Superman Mug!

Bought: $5.64 Sold: $19.39 Fees: $2.73 Profit: $11.02

This is a Superman mug from 1993 in the same pattern as the Batman one I sold last week. I got them at the same time. Considering both sold within two weeks of the new Batman/Superman movie coming out, I feel like both sales are tied to that movie. It is a pretty nice mug, and if I had more interest in DC I might have kept it, but I'm glad it is off to a good home.

Dungeons & Dragons Lot Update - 4th Book sold
