Flipping Experiment #2: Storage Locker - Month #3

June 29th - An Illustrated History Of The Hudson's Bay Company
Sold for: $9.99 Fees: $2.38

Another book on the Hudson's Bay company from the locker sold. Not a huge profit, but I'll take it.

The Numbers:
Initial Cost: $326.29
Number of items sold in June: 8
Number of items sold overall: 25
Gross Profit for June: $84.94
Fees to eBay: $11.27
Net Profit for June: $73.67
Net Overall Profit: $147.41

June 2nd - Ciara Fantasy Ride CD
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

There is a reason I don't buy CDs to resell - there isn't much profit there. But when I get them as part of a giant lot, or in this case as part of a storage locker, I have no problem selling them and making as much profit as I can.

June 13th - 3 Silver Eagle Records Solid Gold Party Rock Cassette Tape

Sold these three cassette tapes of party rock music.

June 13th - The Blanket: An Illustrated Guide of the HBC Blanket
Sold for: $29.99 Fees: $4.43

This was one of the few books in the storage locker worth any money. She worked at Zellers/HBC for most of her career and had a number of HBC memorabilia, including this book which she bought at Value Village. Thankfully she isn't the only person who likes the Bay, and this book is out of print, so it was a nice sale.

June 13th - Dance Mix USA 96
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

Sold this cassette tape from the storage locker.

June 18th - Nintendo Gameboy DS Lite
Sold for: $20.00 Fees: $0.00

There was this really beat up and really dirty Nintendo DS Lite in the locker along with two pretty non-desirable games. It was lacking the charger as well. I would normally have looked for more for this had it been in any better condition. I decided to try and sell it locally and sold it on Facebook Marketplace for $20. I'll take it.

June 18th - M.C. Mario CD
Sold for: $9.99 Fees: $1.55

Another CD sold. I'd never buy CDs to sell, but when they come as part of a larger lot I'll sell them if I can get a few bucks for them.

June 22nd - Disney Camp Rock Pin

Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $0.83

This is a Disney pin that was in the locker. I wish there had been more of these!

Oh Cards

Bought: $1.12 Sold: $30.00 Fees: $4.32 Profit: $24.56

These are a set of OH cards. When I found these at VV I wasn't able to find much about them, but they looked odd and vintage and for a dollar I figured it was worth the risk. After I got home and did some research and they are actually interesting. Here is the explanation from Wikipedia:
OH Cards are a genre of special playing cards used as story–telling prompters, counseling and psychotherapeutic tools, communication enhancers, educational aids, and social interactive games. OH cards have no official or traditional interpretations of images, and instructions included with the decks encourage imaginative and personal interpretations of the images. Usually these images are small paintings created by various artists specifically for this kind of use. As a genre, OH cards are unconventional "information containers", unbound books with no set sequence of pages.
Their most common uses are as a focus for self–examination and as prompters in social interactions. They are often used as aides in psychotherapeutic settings, and in a variety of educational situations. Less commonly, OH cards are used as catalysts in artistic fields: in writing, painting, theatre, even dance.
Categorically OH Cards operate in the interface of literature, art appreciation, games and psychology. Most commonly they are used as a focus for self–examination.

Sin City A Dame to Kill For

Sold: $14.99 Fees: $2.07 Profit: $12.92

The first five issues in the Sin City series A Dame to Kill For, which was the series the movie was based on. Not a bad price for these issues, and this sale pushed the lot these ones came from into the black, bringing my total to 16 out of 32 lots as being profitable so far! That's 50% of them!

Current profit off the comic auction: $142.72

Batman Venom

Sold: $9.99 Fees: $1.55 Profit: $8.44

This is a trade paperback collecting 6 issues from the Batman Legends of a Dark Knight series.

Current profit off the comic auction: $129.80

Commissioned Sale: Mad Hatter Mickey Pin

Sale Price: $12.80 Fees:$2.65 Profit: $10.15

More Disney pin sales.

Storage Locker #2

June 27th - Dresser

Sold for: $50.00 Fees: $0.00

Now that I have finally finished sorting through everything I'm able to get to the furniture pieces that were in the locker. I posted this dresser on FB and Kijiji last night and within minutes starting getting people messaging to buy it. I guess $50 for a wooden dresser is too cheap. I'm pretty happy with the price, and it moved quickly which was my main concern. I have another dresser to list still, and I'll ask a bit more for it. I sold it to the first person who messaged me, who apparently refinishes dressers, so I'm glad it's going to get maintained and probably resold. Also, it turns out that she works at the local young offender jail working with inmates with special needs, which is something that obviously hit close to home, so I'm glad I sold it to her. I sent her off with some children's DVDs from the locker as well for the kids at the jail.

The Numbers:
Initial Cost: $412.91
Number of items sold in June: 9
Number of items sold overall: 9
Gross Profit for June: $124.92
Fees to eBay: $12.30
Net Profit for June: $112.62
Net Overall Profit: -$300.29

I bought another storage locker, this one a lot larger and more full than the last one. This one was a 10x10 locker, and it was in Brockville. I won the locker for $201, but since it was in Brockville I had some additional expenses to get it all back to Ottawa. I am opening to double my investment, or maybe even make a grand. We shall see...

Expenses:
Locker cost + GST = $230
Buyer's Premium = $34.07
U-Haul Rental = $100.57
Gas = $50.27
Total cost = $412.91

June 10 - PS2 Harvest Moon A Wonderful Life Special Edition

Sold for: $9.99 Fees: $1.55

Another video game sold within a few hours of being posted, this one a PS2 game.

June 10 - Lord of the Rings Battle For Middle Earth
Sold for: $24.99 Fees: $3.49

The first item to sell from the locker is a computer game. There was a box of video games, which were the first things I listed because they are easy to photograph and I don't need to package them until they sell since they have standard dimensions/weight. This one sold within a few hours of it being listed, so I'm off to a good start!

June 12 - Intellivision Lives PS2 Game
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

Another PS2 game sold, this one a collection of Intellivision games.

June 14th - Lego Indiana Jones Game
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

More video game sales!

June 18th - The Sims 2 Castaway
Sold for: $9.99 Fees: $1.55

Another video game sold! It's always nice to find video games as they tend to sell well if priced to move. All I've sold from this unit so far is video games, but that's because that's all I've posted so far.

June 19th - Lord of the Rings PS2 Game
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

Another PS2 game sold. I really need to list other stuff so something other than video games can sell from this locker.

June 21st - Playstation 2 Jak 3
Sold for: $4.99 Fees: $1.04

Another PS2 game sold! I'm glad these are selling fast.

June 26th - Spartan Total Warrior Game
Sold for: $9.99 Fees: $1.55

I still haven't listed anything except for the one box of video games, so that is all that is selling so far.

Real Fishing Board Game

Bought: $3.15 Sold: $49.99 Fees: $7.22 Profit: $39.60

This is a board game that I picked up at the Pembroke VV while there for work, and it is a board game about fishing... I can't imagine a more boring game. That being said, despite having no listings on eBay I bought it because I figured eventually someone is going to come looking for this. I bought it last June, so it took a year to sell, but $3 into $50 is a great ROI.

Sputnik Monthly Digest Magazine Issues 1 to 8

Sold: $74.99 Fees: $12.63 Profit: $62.36

This is the first eight issues of the Sputnik Monthly Digest magazine from 1967. This magazine published Russian literature and articles in English and was sold around the world - an attempt to introduce soviet writing to the rest of the world. This was in a lot of magazines that I bought at an auction last week, and this series was the reason I bought the lot - which cost me of all of $2! So this sale did more than just pay for the whole lot. The lot had two other magazine series in it, which I'm going to lot up and list as well, but whatever I get from them is pure profit. This actually sold to Germany, and the buyer paid $100 for shipping! Yikes!

Daredevil Annual #10

Sold: $1.99 Fees: $0.57 Profit: $1.42

One of the few Daredevil comics from the auction - which is probably a good thing as I would have kept them otherwise. This is the last DD annual in his original run, where he is wearing his worst uniform ever.

Current profit off the comic auction: $121.36

Lot of 17 Deetail Britains Ltd 1971 Military English Soldier

Sold: $49.99 Fees: $6.39 Profit: $43.60

This lot of toy solders was part of the large toy lot I picked up at auction a few months ago. A great price for these, and overall that toy lot did remarkably well for me.

Dungeons & Dragons Thunderdelve Mountain

Bought: $0.00 Sold: $19.99 Fees: $2.06 Profit: $17.93

Another one of the D&D books I bought at the Pembroke VV. These are moving pretty quickly, and at this point it is all profit!

Antarctica Global WARming

Bought: $5.64 Sold: $25.00 Fees: $4.04 Profit: $15.32

This is a board game that I picked up over two years ago, and it just sold. It's a game from a small developer, and despite having some really interesting gaming dynamics, it is not a very popular game, and it is a BIG game so shipping was expensive. I am so glad that this finally sold! Love moving out inventory.

Humphrey Bogart The Essential Collection 13 DVD Box Set

Sold: $59.99 Fees: $6.04 Profit: $53.95

This is a box set featuring every film starring Humphrey Bogart, and it came in the lot that the other DVDs came in from the auction. This was not the reason I bought the lot, but was a nice bonus for sure and this sale more than paid for the whole lot.

Brad Pitt Triple Feature DVD

Sold: $4.99 Fees: $0.82 Profit: $4.17

A recent auction lot that I bought included a number of DVDs. I don't buy DVDs to resell since the vast majority aren't worth much, but when I get them as part of a lot I'll try and sell the ones I can.

Commissioned Sale: Burger King Pin

Sale Price: $9.99 Fees:$2.58 Profit: $7.41
My 30% Commission: $2.22

This burger king pin was in among the McDonald's ones. I am surprised this one took so long to sell considering there are not a lot of Burger King pins for sale.

Disney Book Block Villains

Bought: $4.51 Sold: $24.99 Fees: $3.90 Profit: $16.58

This is a set of 12 board books for children featuring 12 villains from Disney. Not a huge sale, and not something I would pick up again. It sat far too long and because it was rather heavy shipping was quite expensive. I am glad that it finally sold though.

Excalibur #71 and Green Lantern Annual #1

Sold: $4.98 Fees: $1.56 Profit: $3.42

Sold these two comics to the same buyer.

Current profit off the comic auction: $119.94

Tough Traveler Hiking Child Backpack

Bought: $10.00 Sold: $40.00 Fees: $0.00 Profit: $30.00

I picked this up at Salvation Army two years ago, and it has sat in my garage ever since. Far too large to list on eBay, and until now had no luck selling it locally. It finally sold, and I'm glad to have this giant bag out of my garage. The profit helps, but hardly worth it for how much space it took up.

The Wargamer #2

Sold: $100.00 Fees: $11.90 Profit: $88.10

At the recent auction where I bought a lot of D&D books I also bought a lot of 11 issues of this magazine, The Wargamer. It was a magazine published in the 70's that talked about War Games and each issue game with a brand new board game to play! To my delight, all 11 issues not only included the games but they were all unplayed. This is the 2nd issue, so an early one, so got a great price for it. This single sale not only paid for the whole lot, but already doubled my investment on the lot.

Meccano Erector Set No 3

Bought: $7.90 Sold: $74.99 Fees: $10.47 Profit: $56.62

This is a Meccano set from 1991. It was unused still in the original box, although it was missing the instruction manual. Shortly after listing it I got a message from someone on eBay saying it would never sell for this price without the manuals. I told him I was confident it would and I was content to wait, and it finally did. It took everything in me not to email him back today, months later, to tell him he was wrong...

The Best From Playboy

Sold: $20.00 Fees: $2.66 Profit: $17.34

This book was included in a lot of magazines I picked up at auction recently. Note a huge seller, but I like to make as much as I can from lots I buy so I'll take it.

Walt Disney Comics Digest #19

Sold: $4.99 Fees: $0.82 Profit: $4.17

This comic is actually not from the comic lot but from a random lot of children's items I got at a different auction. It was the only comic, and it is in remarkable shape considering it is from 1970.

The Official Partridge Family Magazine #1 and #2

Sold: $49.99 Fees: $5.11 Profit: $44.88

I picked up these two magazines in a lot of magazines at an auction last weekend. I paid $25 for the whole lot, so this sale alone almost doubles my investment. These are the first two issues of a short run of the Partridge Family Magazines from 1971. These weren't the reason I bought the lot - a board game that was included was - but it's nice when stuff other than what I bought it for sells and covers the cost of the lot.

Commissioned Item: Copeland Spode Plates

Sale Price: $69.95 Fees:$14.43 Profit: $55.52
My 30% Commission: $16.65

These are some dishes from a friend of my mom's that she asked me to list for her. The buyer purchased two lots - 5 salad plates and 2 bread/butter plates. I'm glad these sold since they take up a lot of space, and I really have no desire to sell fragile china, so the faster it sells the faster I don't have to worry about it.

Nintendo Switch Lanyard

Bought: $0.00 Sold: $9.99 Fees: $0.90 Profit: $9.09

This is another one of the lanyards that my brother-in-law gave to me. Not a bad profit for something I got for free.

Dungeons & Dragons Deities Demigods Cyclopedia

Sold: $49.99 Fees: $5.11 Profit: $44.88

This is another one of the D&D books that I got at the auction last week that sold the same day.

Dungeons & Dragons Supplement IV Gods Demi-Gods & Heroes

Sold: $49.99 Fees: $5.14 Profit: $44.85

I picked up a large lot of vintage Dungeons & Dragons books at an auction last week, finally got some of them listed and this one sold the same day.

Hawk Lockheed T-33A Jet Trainer Chrome Plated Model

Bought: $4.51 Sold: $49.99 Fees: $7.85 Profit: $37.63
Chris' 10% Commission: $3.76

This is a model plane from 1961! The box was in pretty rough condition with some water damage, but the model pieces were still wrapped in their bag. The metal appeared to have started to rust, but it was unbuilt. Got a great price for this.

The Phantom #18

Sold: $19.99 Fees: $2.06 Profit: $17.93

A very nice price for this comic from 1966 that is in remarkable condition for its age. Also, I have no made over $100 in profit! It is slowly creeping up.

Current profit off the comic auction: $116.52

Commissioned Sale: Two Disney Pins

Sale Price: $14.98 Fees:$3.68 Profit: $11.30
My 30% Commission: $3.39

Two more Disney pins sold to the same buyer.
