So the week before our wedding there was an online auction that included a number of comic book lots. I really wanted to buy them as I knew it was a good investment, and I saw a number of key issues that I plan to get graded. The problem, however, was that the pickup for the auction was the morning of our wedding... I, of course, didn't mention any of this to Robin - she was stressed enough. To make matters more complicated, the auction was about an hour's drive away. So, the Wednesday night before the wedding the auction ended and I ended up winning 32 lots totaling 3,720 comics for a total price of $4,412.70 or about $1.19 a comic. I contacted the company and they were nice enough to let me come on the Friday - the day before my wedding - to pick them up. Not that the day before the wedding wasn't already full and stressful, but Hayley and I drove up there, loaded the car, and drove back. They sat in my basement all through the honeymoon and I've spent the last two weeks since I've been back indexing them all and deciding which ones I'm going to send off to get slabbed. I started listing the first few comics today - it is going to take a while to list them all - and this lot sold within an hour of being posted! I'm extremely happy with the price I got here, and considering the breakdown per comic of $1.19, these three comics essentially cost me $3.60, so a pretty good return on the investment. That being said, overall I'm clearly quite still in the red and will be for a while, but I'm confident I'll end up making a pretty good return on the auction as a whole. Oh, and I made sure not to tell Robin until after the wedding - it was too late to get mad then!
Current profit off the comic auction: -$.4,315.20
